    A Brief Talk on Coating Technology of SUV or Car Fuel Tank Cover

    With the rapid development of the automobile industry, people are demanding more and more automobiles. People not only pay attention to the safety performance and function of the whole vehicle, but also have more fine perception of its appearance. Vehicle fuel tank cover is generally located above the rear wheel cover of passenger cars, on the same side with the fuel tank. Its main function is to decorate the body. Often, a tiny detail of the fuel tank cover will determine a person's intention to buy a car. In this paper, the common quality problems of SUV or car fuel tank cover painting and the coating process adopted are analyzed.

    1.The structure of oil tank cover in the eyes of painting practitioners is roughly divided into two categories: one is metal oil tank cover, the material of oil tank cover is generally iron, strong stability, need to be coated with electrophoresis and spraying paint; the other is plastic oil tank cover, the material of oil tank cover is high temperature resistant polymer plastic, with small mass and strong anti-rust ability, only need to be coated with spraying paint. Because of the different material of the oil tank cover, the painting process of the oil tank cover will be completely different, and there will be different painting schemes.

    2. Requirements of Fuel Tank Cover Structure for Painting Process

    2.1. Requirements of Metal Fuel Tank Cover Structure for Painting Process

    The most effective way to solve the above problems is to separate electrophoresis and spray painting of the fuel tank cover and the body. There are only two choices for the main plant: 1) Before the pre-treatment electrophoresis line enters the car in the painting workshop, there are not too many jobs in most of the painting workshop at present. Generally, there is a white body inspection station in the process layout. It mainly installs some pre-treatment electrophoresis tools and the white body condition of the inspection. The engineering density is very high, so it is not to remove the oil here. Best position for box cover. 2) Removal of the oil tank cover in the welding workshop, combined with our company's field experience, in the original welding installation of the oil tank cover is a more suitable position.

    Painting Part: 1) Fix the removed fuel tank cover in the welding and assembling of the car body cab with wire, requiring no contact between the fuel tank cover and the car body, and carry out pre-treatment electrophoresis on the car; 2) In the painting fixture exchange station, remove the fuel tank cover, use the oil tank cover surface painting sprayer to install on the car body, the installation location of the fuel tank cover in many automotive main engine factories is also diverse. Some of them are placed in the front door and window frame of the body, the front windshield, the position of the outlet in the rear circumference, and also in the back door and window frame. The specific location of the tank cover should first be from the operator's point of view, depending on where the tank cover is placed in the welding, and the staff can efficiently complete the work.

    For different structure of tank caps, tooling needs to be developed separately, but attention should be paid to: 1) tooling should not touch paint to bring inconvenience to the follow-up; 2) electrostatic ring should be designed according to the shape of tank cap to solve the problem of downstream paint on the outer plate. There are also two choices in this part. Some main engine factories choose to install the final inspection line or submission line in the painting workshop. Some main engine factories choose to install in the assembly workshop. No matter where the workshop is installed, the gap surface difference should be considered. Generally speaking, it is recommended to install in the assembly workshop.

    2.2. The requirement of plastic fuel tank cover structure for painting process

    When SUV or car adopt plastic fuel tank cover structure, because of the different material, plastic fuel tank cover does not need electrophoretic rust prevention, only considering that plastic fuel tank cover can be sprayed and baked like other plastic parts of the body, so this structure of fuel tank cover determines that conventional oil tank cover coating process can not be selected. But the trouble is that it adds another problem of color difference of plastic parts. We do not discuss the problem of guaranteeing color difference control between plastic parts and automobile body here. We only discuss what kind of painting technology scheme and matters needing attention should be adopted for plastic fuel tank cover.

    First of all, it must be emphasized that the plastic fuel tank cover used can be baked at high temperature (180 C) for 40 minutes. The cost of this material is relatively high, which is also the reason why the front and rear bumpers are not produced in the painting workshop of the main engine plant (the quality of the front and rear bumpers is larger, and the variability is also a reason in high temperature environment).
