Nitrates

Sodium Nitrate

(7631-99-4)
Sodium nitrate is the chemical compound with the formula NaNO3. This salt is also known as Chile saltpeter or Peru saltpeter (due to the large deposits found in the Atacama desert in these countries) to distinguish it from ordinary saltpeter, potassium nitrate. The mineral form is also known as nitratine, nitratite or soda niter.Sodium nitrate is a white solid very soluble in water. It is a readily available source of the nitrate anion (NO3−), which is useful in several reactions carried out on industrial scales for the production of fertilizers, pyrotechnics and smoke bombs, glass and pottery enamels, food preservatives (esp. meats), and solid rocket propellant. It has been mined extensively for these purposes.

Potassium Nitrate

(7757-79-1)
Used as analytical reagents, such as oxidants and fluxes. Used in the production of synthetic potassium salts, matches and glass. It is also used in kinescope production and electroplating industries.

Aluminum nitrate

(13473-90-0)
The nonahydrate and other hydrated aluminum nitrates have many applications. These salts are used to produce alumina for preparation of insulating papers, in cathode tube heating elements, and on transformer core laminates. The hydrated salts are also used for extraction of actinide elements. Textiles (mordant), leather tanning, manufacture of incandescent filaments, catalyst in petroleum refining, nucleonics, anticorrosion agent, antiperspirant.

Strontium Nitrate

(10042-76-9)
In pyrotechnics (red fire), signal lights, marine signals, railroad flares, matches.

Lead Nitrate

(10099-74-8)
manufacture of matches and special explosives; as mordant in dyeing and printing on textiles; mordant for staining horn, mother-of-pearl; oxidizer in dye industry; sensitizer in photography; process engraving.

Magnesium Nitrate

(10377-60-3)
Magnesium nitrate is a hygroscopic salt with the formula Mg(NO3)2. In air, it quickly forms the hexahydrate with the formula Mg(NO3)2·6H2O (and molar weight of 256.41 g/mol). It is very soluble in both water and ethanol.

Zincnitrate

(7779-88-6)
The compound is used as a mordant in dyeing and as a latex coagulant. It also is used as an acid catalyst and as an analytical standard for zinc.

Chromic nitrate

(13548-38-4)
Used to manufacture chromium-containing catalysts, glass and ceramic glazes, and as mordant and corrosion inhibitor for printing and dyeing fabrics

Aluminium Nitratenonahydrate

(7784-27-2)
It is used in metal standard solutions; extraction of uranium.

Nitrates are salts formed by the reaction of HNO3 with metals. Nitrate is an ionic compound, a general term for compounds derived from nitric acid. It consists of metal ions (or ammonium ions) and nitrate ions. Common nitrates are NaNO3, KNO3, NH4NO3, Ca(NO3)2, Pb(NO3)2, Ce(NO3)3·6H2O, etc. The main use is nitrogen fertilizer for plant uptake.
