The first biomass-to-hydrogen project in China was ignited

2022-11-09

Recently, the first domestic biomass gasification-chemical chain hydrogen production pilot project was successfully ignited in China Datang Group Company Limited's Anhui Maanshan Dangtu Power Generation Company.

The project adopts advanced technology and research results of Southeast University, and is jointly constructed by East China Institute of Datang Group, Yiyuan Engineering and Technology Research Institute, Sinochem Second Construction Group Co. The produced hydrogen can be used for fuel cell power generation and multi-state hydrogen energy commercial application, and the energy utilization rate can reach more than 90%, realizing "green hydrogen" and "green electricity" in real sense.

Chemical chain hydrogen production is an emerging green hydrogen production technology, which uses metal-based oxygen carriers as intermediaries to deconstruct the redox reaction of fuel into three stages: reduction, steam oxidation and air oxidation with the help of electron and oxygen migration within the lattice, producing pure hydrogen and carbon dioxide at different stages.

Relevant information shows that the technology is clean in the production process and does not produce pollutants such as nitrogen oxides; the raw materials are widely available and can be used to directly produce negative carbon green hydrogen or blue hydrogen from biogas, landfill gas, coal-bed methane, low-grade natural gas, pyrolysis gas, and petroleum gas; it can also further utilize waste plastics, residual oil, wax oil, petroleum coke, etc., so as to embed in the process of solid waste utilization, oil refining and petrochemical, and coal chemical, and realize the low carbon of the corresponding industries Reconstruction.
