Turkey announces discovery of 58 billion cubic meters of natural gas in Black Sea

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on the 26th that Turkey has newly discovered 58 billion cubic meters of natural gas resources in the Black Sea region.

 

Erdogan said at a press conference held after the cabinet meeting that day that the proven natural gas resources are located 3,023 meters below the Chayjuma-1 well in the Black Sea region, with proven reserves of 58 billion cubic meters.He said that this discovery also lays the foundation for future exploration of new natural gas resources in adjacent areas, and Turkey will start new exploration work as soon as possible.

In June 2021, Turkey announced the discovery of 135 billion cubic meters of natural gas in the Sakarya gas field in the Black Sea.

 

At this stage, Turkey's oil and gas resources are highly dependent on imports.According to the plan, Turkey hopes to reduce its energy external dependence from 71% in 2021 to less than 50% in the next 10 years, and to 13% in 2053.
