Australia's LNG export volume increased significantly
According to the survey data released recently by Energy Quest, an Australian energy consultancy, Australia's total exports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) in 2022 reached AUD92.8 billion, up 86% from 2021. This is mainly due to the soaring price of natural gas caused by the European energy crisis.
In 2022, Australia's LNG export volume reached 81.4 million tons, surpassing the United States and Qatar, becoming the world's largest LNG exporter. In 2020, Australia's LNG export volume was only AUD36 billion. In 2022, Japan accounted for 39% of Australia's LNG export destinations, ranking first; The second is China, accounting for 28%.
However, Bethune, CEO of Energy Quest, pointed out that after the reserves of Bayu-undan natural gas field in the Timor sea area along the northern coast of Australia are exhausted, its natural gas production may decline in 2023, and the export volume will decrease accordingly.
