Unilever, Procter&Gamble, and BASF have launched cross industry cooperation for the first time to reduce greenhouse gas emissions
Many industry giants such as Unilever, Procter&Gamble, Procter&Gamble, and BASF are embarking on their first cross industry cooperation to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The name of the program is Flue2Chem, and it will be dedicated to converting industrial waste gases in the UK, producing more sustainable chemicals for consumer goods, and reducing dependence on fossil fuels.
Approximately 15 organizations have received £ 2.68 million in funding from Innovate UK for the Flue2Chem project to help reduce UK carbon dioxide emissions by 15-20 million tons per year.
The Flue2Chem project team will develop methods for using carbon captured from waste streams in other industries and converting it into affordable consumer raw materials.
Ian Howell, R&D Director of Unilever Home Care Technology and Project Leader of SCI SMCP Group, explained: “The Flue2Chem project is an opportunity to change the rules of the game by accelerating action and reconnecting the chemical value chain to reduce dependence on fossil fuels. This is a bold ambition, and in the past two years, we have been publicly calling for action at Unilever. No single company can do this alone, so having the power of 15 manufacturers and scholars signifies not only for the UK but also for the world We have taken an important step forward.”
