Global lithium battery demand will increase by more than 5 times in 2030
According to a report recently released by the Lithium Bridge Alliance (Li-Bridge), a public and private partnership in the United States, by 2030, the global demand for lithium batteries will surge by more than 5 times.
The report pointed out that compared with the present, the demand for lithium batteries in the United States is expected to increase by more than 6 times by 2030, reaching 55 billion US dollars. The report also expects U.S. supplies to be heavily dependent on imports. At present, the United States lacks a substantial lithium battery supply chain and secure access to energy materials, and less than 30% of the batteries consumed in the country are supplied by domestic companies.
Li-Bridge is an institution led by the Argonne National Laboratory funded by the US Department of Energy in 2021. The agency aims to accelerate the establishment of a robust lithium battery supply chain by building bridges between the public and private sectors to bridge the gap between battery supply and growing demand.
