ExxonMobil to adopt Honeywell carbon capture technology
Honeywell announced today that ExxonMobil will deploy a Honeywell carbon dioxide fractionation and hydrogen purification system at its integrated cogeneration facility in Baytown, Texas. The system is one of Honeywell's carbon capture-related technologies and is expected to help ExxonMobil capture about 7 million tons of carbon dioxide per year, equivalent to the annual emissions of 1.5 million cars. Honeywell UOP's carbon capture technology will be integrated into the design of ExxonMobil's low-carbon hydrogen production facility, enabling it to capture more than 98 percent of the associated CO2 emissions. The captured CO2 is expected to be permanently stored by ExxonMobil.
ExxonMobil's low-carbon hydrogen production, ammonia production and carbon capture facility in Baytown is scheduled to be commissioned between 2027 and 2028, and is expected to generate approximately 1 billion cubic feet of low-carbon hydrogen per day, making it expected to be the largest low-carbon hydrogen production facility in the world. One of the carbon hydrogen production projects.
"ExxonMobil's investment in carbon capture demonstrates our strong commitment to supporting our customers' decarbonization and reducing carbon emissions from our own operations," said Dan Ammann, president, Low Carbon Solutions, ExxonMobil. , the project is expected to reduce direct emissions at the Baytown facility by up to 30 percent."
Barry Glickman, vice president and general manager of Honeywell's sustainable technology solutions business, said: "The application of Honeywell's technology can help ExxonMobil reduce carbon dioxide emissions on a large scale. Our mature carbon capture technology can be used in the production process decarbonise, drastically reduce emissions and thus play an important role in the energy transition."
