Bolivia exported nearly 82,000 tons of urea in the first quarter and Brazil was the biggest buyer
Armin Dorgathen, president of Bolivia's state oil company, YPFB, recently reported that in the first quarter of 2023, 77% of Bolivia's urea exports went to Brazil, cementing Bolivia's position as a major buyer of fertilizer.
Specifically, Petrobras sold about 81,933 tonnes of urea in the first quarter, of which 16,286 tonnes were used for the domestic market and 65,647 tonnes for export, PortalPortuario reported.
"In the first quarter, 20 per cent of urea sold in Bolivia was for the domestic market, with the rest going to Brazil (the main buyer, more than 63,300 tonnes), Peru, Paraguay and Argentina," Mr Dolgarn said. These countries need our urea because it helps increase crop yields. Demand for our urea is also growing in Latin America."
It is worth noting that Petrobras earned over US $31.9 million from the export of urea during the analysis period.
