Sumio opened a pilot polycarbonate dissolution plant in the Netherlands

soutuliao 2023-05-18

Trinjuo announced the official opening of its polycarbonate (PC) dissolution pilot plant in Ternewsen, the Netherlands, on April 5, 2023. The new pilot plant is a big step towards achieving our sustainability commitment and is part of our Sustainable development Goals.

An essential element of Trinseo's innovation is its commitment to developing and delivering sustainable solutions. This element is the driving force behind all of Trinseo's business R&D efforts. As we are still in the research and development stage, this advanced pilot plant will be located in a temporary area at the Sensei Autel Newson site until the central process research laboratory, which is being built in the same area, is completed.

"Dissolution recovery" is a physical recovery method that uses solvents to extract the desired polymer. The extracted polymer will be used to make new recycled polymers. Trinjuo's PC dissolution technology is so advanced that pre - or post-consumer materials containing PC, whether automotive parts or consumer electronics parts mixed with other plastics, metals or even glass, can be placed directly into the solvent without any pretreatment. The solvent will only dissolve the PC in these discarded parts; all other non-PC materials will not be dissolved and can also be used for other recycling purposes. The PC extracted after dissolution is 100% recycled PC, which can be mixed into new materials for a variety of uses, such as mobile phone casings, printer casings, or automotive parts.

The pilot plant will contribute significantly to achieving the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, while accelerating recycling and enhancing the availability of sustainable raw materials.
