Evonik To Boost Natural Cosmetic Formulations with Sustainable Baobab Oil

Evonik, a trailblazer in the cosmetics industry, is set to elevate natural cosmetic formulations with its latest addition to the Ecohance program – the sustainable baobab oil, aptly named Ecohance Soft Baobab. Sourced from the near Sahel region of Ghana, this eco-friendly oil, derived from the non-edible seeds of the baobab fruit, serves as a botanical emollient, seamlessly integrating into a diverse range of natural cosmetic products, including hand creams, hair conditioners, and body butters.

Ecohance Soft Baobab stands out with its well-balanced composition, featuring an optimized low amount of triglycerides with cyclopropeonic fatty acids alongside a high tocopherol ratio. This unique blend promises a botanical emollient that not only nourishes but also revitalizes the skin.

In an effort to ensure sustainable sourcing, Evonik has established a brand-new supply chain with the collaboration of local and international partners. The seeds used in the oil production are sourced from the wild collection of baobab fruits, contributing to the prevention of desertification in the Sahel region. Evonik's commitment to sustainability is further emphasized through partnerships with the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) and support for the Great Green Wall Initiative.

To reinforce the ecological and social impact of the entire value chain, Ecohance Soft Baobab has been certified by the FairWild Foundation. This certification guarantees that the sourcing of baobab oil protects the local ecosystem, supports social and economic projects in the region, and ensures traceability down to the collector.

Baobab trees, known for their resilience to poor soil, heat, and drought, play a crucial role in preventing desertification in the Sahel.
