Suspend tariff concessions for some products in Taiwan, involving 12 chemical products

2023-12-22

On December 21, the Customs Tariff Commission of The State Council issued the Announcement of the Customs Tariff Commission of The State Council on the Suspension of Tariff concessions for some products under the Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement:

The Taiwan(China) has unilaterally adopted discriminatory prohibitions and restrictions on the export of products from the mainland, which violates the provisions of the Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement across the Taiwan Straits. According to the Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement, the Customs Tariff Commission of The State Council decided to suspend the tariff reduction of some products under the  the Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement in accordance with regulations and procedures. It is hoped that the Taiwan region will take effective measures to remove trade restrictions on the mainland. The relevant matters are hereby announced as follows:

Starting from January 1, 2024, for imported products of the 12 tariff items listed in the annex, such as Propylene and Xylenes, the agreed tariff rates of the Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement across the Taiwan Straits will be suspended and implemented in accordance with the current relevant provisions.
