WACKER launches redispersible latex powder and resin at PAINTINDIA 2024

ECHEMI 2024-02-23

At the ongoing PAINTINDIA 2024, WACKER will release two redispersible latex powders for formulating ceramic tile adhesives, which it says will soon be introduced to the growing Indian market. WACKER will also showcase PRIMIS® SAF 96000, a film-forming resin specifically designed to meet paper barrier coating requirements, and PRIMIS® SAF 9800, a resin designed to improve the stain and water resistance of interior and wood coatings.

"India is one of the largest construction markets in Asia. Our redispersible latex powders primarily cater to the growing needs and demands of the construction industry. To name just two, putty coatings and tile adhesives are top sellers. We continuously work to enhance our products and provide technical expertise and customer service across the entire value chain. At PAINTINDIA, we will present a range of new products to the Indian market," said Anand Gopaladesika, head of WACKER's polymer business in India.

Redispersible latex powders for the formulation of ceramic tile adhesives: VINNAPAS® 4419 E and VINNAPAS® 8819 E

Redispersible latex powders are developed specifically for users (i.e. tilers and other skilled workers) primarily to improve workability. For them, proper mortar consistency is key when mixing dry mix mortar with water and then applying the mortar. The finer and smoother the tile adhesive, the less physical effort it requires to apply and the more comfortable it is for the user.

The new VINNAPAS® 4419 E and VINNAPAS® 8819 E polymer binders have been modified to reduce the viscosity of fresh mortars by up to 20%. Therefore, less physical effort is required to prepare the mortar and apply it using a serrated trowel. Practical evaluations on test walls show that this makes using it much easier.

VINNAPAS® products also reduce open time and correction time – in other words, the time the tiler can still adjust the position of the tile before the adhesive sets and hardens. This improvement is especially noticeable in warmer areas with more sunlight, where tilers now have more time to prepare fresh mortar, even at high ambient temperatures.

Tile workers aren't the only ones benefiting from polymer adhesives – manufacturers of tile adhesives stand to benefit too. The good processing properties of these types of mortars mean that, in some cases, manufacturers need far fewer additives or can even omit them entirely.

VINNAPAS® 4419 E and VINNAPAS® 8819 E have been specially developed for tile adhesive formulations. In addition to making the mortar easier to work with, these adhesives also improve the sag-free properties of the mortar bed. Tilers can move, adjust and ultimately secure the tiles in place without having to expend a lot of physical effort.

At the same time, the new redispersible latex powder optimizes the wetting of the backside of the tiles – a particularly important feature when processing ceramic tiles or large slabs and establishing strong, permanent bonds between these materials and substrates, this is a particularly important feature. VINNAPAS® 8819 E was developed for the most demanding applications.

Innovative coating resins PRIMIS® SAF 9600 and PRIMIS® SAF 9 800

At this year's PAINTINDIA exhibition, WACKER launched two innovative resin products, PRIMIS® SAF 9600 and PRIMIS® SAF 9 800. In PRIMIS® SAF 9600, WACKER introduces a resin specifically designed to meet the requirements of paper barrier coatings. Paper and board treated with properly formulated coatings with PRIMIS® SAF 9600 are heat-sealable, water-resistant, anti-blocking and have good oil and grease resistance. PRIMIS® SAF 9600 is polyethylene (PE) and fluorocarbon free. This water-based dispersion is easily compatible with a variety of systems and can be formulated with waxes and other additives as desired. PRIMIS® SAF 9600 does not interfere with paper and cardboard recycling due to high fiber recovery rates.

In the coatings sector, PRIMIS® SAF 9 800 is used as a resin for high-performance interior and exterior paints and ready-to-use dispersion plasters. It improves the stain and water resistance of interior and wood coatings and is easily compatible with a variety of resins.
