SABIC launches new resin and is a finalist for the Edison Best New Product Awards
Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC), a global leader in the chemical industry, has launched LNP ELCRES SLX1271SR resin, a new addition to its portfolio of weatherable LNP SLX copolymers. This specialty material has enhanced scratch resistance and high surface gloss, providing the automotive industry with a new exterior molding color solution.
LNP ELCRES SLX1271SR resin also offers excellent weather resistance, sustained UV stability and good mechanical properties. By adopting this new solution, customers can eliminate the environmental and underlying system impact of paint, gaining cost advantages while maintaining the long-term beauty of their exterior parts.
The new resin is a finalist in the Advanced Materials category of the 2024 Edison Best New Product Awards. The Edison Awards recognize excellence in innovation around the world. Previously, SABIC's innovative solutions won the Edison Invention Award for three consecutive years. In 2022, the LNPTM ELCRESTM EXL7414 & LNPTM ELCRINTM EXL7414B copolymer resin developed by SABIC won the Bronze Medal in the Bio-based Materials Category of the Edison Invention Award; In 2023, SABIC's innovative high-temperature-resistant EXTEM resin for cutting-edge circuits and electric vehicle boards won the Gold Medal in the Materials Science category of the Edison Invention Award.
Wang Qin, Director of Specialty Product Formulation and Applications, SABIC Asia Pacific, said: "Our latest technology breaks through the shortcomings of traditional materials, solves the problem of materials not being scratch-resistant, and increases the appeal of paint-free thermoplastics. Innovative formulations, including the inherent UV-absorbing layer of our new resin, ensure that the vehicle's luster and mechanical properties are maintained throughout its lifetime. The new LNP ELCRES SLX1271SR resin demonstrates the strong ability of SABIC’s technical team to develop innovative solutions to solve customer pain points. "
