The US has added potash to its list of key minerals

Recently, the United States added potash and phosphate fertilizer to the final list of critical minerals of the Department of the Interior. Minerals are added and removed from the list based on their impact on national security, the economy and their role in critical infrastructure, according to the Interior Department.

Corey Rosenbusch, president and CEO of the Fertilizer Institute, said, "As a nation, we must take proactive steps to recognize the role these minerals play in the food on our tables to secure our own agricultural future." Without these two minerals, the modern agricultural system would collapse and it would be nearly impossible to feed a growing population." Potash fertilizer plays a decisive role in the incremental improvement of grain quality, and the United States relies on imports for about 95% of its potash needs, making it the most import-dependent key agricultural resource in the country.
