SABIC launches VALOX HX325HP resin for high-precision diabetes management devices
SABIC, a global leader in the chemicals industry, announces the launch of VALOX HX325HP resin, a new high-performance medical-grade injection moldable polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) resin.
Developed specifically for high-precision parts such as components for insulin delivery pens, insulin pumps, auto-injectors and continuous glucose monitors, this new resin combines excellent processing properties with high chemical resistance and proven biocompatibility.
Roble Amanda, SABIC Director of Advanced Consumer Solutions said: "With global diabetes cases expected to surge from 529 million to 1.3 billion by 2050, leading manufacturers in the medical and pharmaceutical markets will invest in easy-to-use, consistent and accurate devices to put diabetes treatment into the hands of patients," "This trend requires materials that provide high levels of safety, reliability and durability without compromising productivity or precision in high-volume applications. We are pleased to introduce our new VALOX HX325HP grade as a thermoplastic polyester solution designed to exceed the high expectations and stringent specifications of manufacturers in these demanding industry segments."
The new medical-grade PBT resin passes rigorous injection molding testing and exhibits high flow properties even in complex designs, as well as excellent release properties with lower shrinkage variation than competing engineering plastics.
In use, VALOX HX325HP resin is highly resistant to a wide range of chemicals, mitigates environmental stress cracking (ESC), and is compatible with ethylene oxide (EtO), gamma irradiation, and steam sterilization.
The new material has successfully passed international biocompatibility standard testing. Preliminary evaluation according to ISO 10993 or USP Level VI is available upon request. In addition, the grade adheres to SABIC’s Healthcare Policy, provides reliable formulation lock and change control management, and complies with FDA and EU guidelines for medical grade plastics.
VALOX HX325HP resin is also available as a formaldehyde-free alternative to polyoxymethylene (POM) materials.
