BASF invests in expanding Nanjing additives factory
BASF announced plans to invest in the expansion of an advanced additives plant at its Nanjing site. Driven by rapidly growing market demand in Asia and beyond, this new expansion project includes a state-of-the-art production line for the production of BASF's high-performance controlled free radical polymerization (CFRP) dispersants based on its unique cutting edge technology. The new production line is designed to meet high environmental standards and is scheduled to go into operation at the end of 2025, featuring state-of-the-art production processes and reduced CO emissions.
"The new investment in the Nanjing additives plant will further strengthen BASF’s local production footprint in China, the world’s largest and fastest-growing chemicals market," said Dr. Jeffrey Lou, President and Chairman of BASF Greater China. "Leveraging our local innovation and manufacturing strength, we are pleased to be able to meet the growing needs of Chinese customers with a more relevant, efficient and innovative product portfolio, thereby contributing to their competitiveness and sustainable growth."
BASF's unwavering commitment to providing world-class performance and formulation additives to the coatings industry is reflected in the continuous expansion of its Nanjing site over the past decade, the company said. Today, the Nanjing plant has become the company's additive production base in China and the Asia-Pacific region, seamlessly integrating manufacturing, technical services and R&D.
Sylvain Huguenard, Vice President Global Additives Business Management, added:"The advantages of CFRP technology include strong pigment affinity and excellent anti-flocculation properties achieved through a well-defined polymer structure. For more than 20 years, BASF has been providing customers with cutting-edge dispersants based on our unique controlled radical polymers. This investment demonstrates our commitment to continued innovation, supply reliability and sustainability."
High-performance additives are widely used in industries such as industrial coatings and automotive OEM coatings. The market continues to demand more versatile and higher performance dispersants that push the limits of the color space achievable with existing pigments.
