Brazil approved 21 registrations in the first quarter! The pesticide registration process remains lengthy

2024-05-13

In Brazil, although the new Pesticide Law (No. 14785, effective December 27, 2023) sets a clear deadline for the completion of product registration assessments, court decisions related to pesticide registration are still in progress.

In the first three months of this year, Brazil's National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) disclosed 21 registrations through judicial action, indicating that the registration approval process is still lengthy. The company said that in the case of generic based formulations, the time span to complete toxicology assessments ranges from five to eight years. In order to speed up market access, pesticide companies continue to take legal action against registrars. It highlighted that 66% of the registrations approved by Anvisa through judicial action in the first three months of this year were filed by four companies, namely Rainbow (24%) and Adama, Perterra and Cropchem (14% each)
