MGC Signs Agreement to Explore Entry into Nucleic Acid Drug CDMO Business

ECHEMI 2024-07-16

Mitsubishi Gas Chemical Co. and Hokkaido System Science Co. have signed a business collaboration agreement to jointly study the feasibility of entering the nucleic acid drug CDMO (contract drug development and manufacturing) business.

MGC has set "Medical/Food" as a target area in its mid-term business plan "Grow UP 2026" and is promoting various related initiatives. These initiatives fall under the scope of MGC's key issue (substantial) "Promoting Innovative R&D", which is part of Strategy 2 (Creating New Value through Innovation) in Goal 1 (Enhancing the Resilience of Our Business Portfolio) of the plan. The nucleic acid drug market has future growth potential, and MGC will work with HSS to study the feasibility of developing a CDMO business to increase its antibody drug CDMO business.

HSS has a good track record in synthesizing and selling nucleic acids for research, and combined with MGC's analytical technology and good manufacturing practice (GMP) knowledge, the two companies aim to conduct a nucleic acid drug CDMO business that provides meaningful solutions to stakeholders, including academic researchers.
