PPG launches energy-curable coatings portfolio for coil metal

ECHEMI 2024-07-31

PPG’s DuraNEXT products cure in seconds at ambient temperatures for faster finishes and energy savings.

PPG announced the launch of the PPG DuraNEXT portfolio, which includes electron beam (EB) and ultraviolet (UV)-cured backings, primers, undercoats and clearcoats, bringing energy efficiency and high-speed energy curing to metal coil coaters.

Unlike traditional coil coating systems that require extremely high temperatures to drive the curing process, PPG DuraNEXT coatings use electron beam or UV energy to transform liquid coatings into fully cured solid coatings in seconds without significant loss of thickness or weight.

“As a pioneer in energy-curable coatings for wood, PPG has leveraged 30 years of expertise to develop these advanced technologies for interior and exterior metal building product applications,” said Irene Tasi, PPG senior vice president, industrial coatings. “The development of UV- and EB-curable coatings for pre-painted metal is a major advancement in energy-curing technology and reflects PPG’s commitment to innovation and more sustainable manufacturing across the industries we serve.”
