Chemours Opens Battery Innovation Center in the US
American chemical company Chemours has opened the Chemours Battery Innovation Center (CBIC), a laboratory facility located in the company's Discovery Center in Newark, Delaware, USA. Chemours said the CBIC is a multi-million dollar investment to support the testing and scaling of next-generation battery technologies to enable more sustainable, cost-effective, energy-efficient and high-performance batteries for hybrid and electric vehicles (EVs).
"The Chemours Battery Innovation Center is a state-of-the-art laboratory designed to improve the sustainability footprint and performance of hybrid and electric vehicle batteries over the long term," said Denise Dignam, Chemours President and CEO. "We are committed to supporting the electrification of the automotive industry through collaboration and leveraging the deep technical expertise of our team."
The CBIC is designed to leverage Chemours' application development expertise and work with customers to drive innovation to scale up the production of more sustainable, high-performance lithium-ion batteries (LiBs). The facility will serve as a technical support lab for partners and customers, working with the company's engineers to iterate, experiment and adopt new approaches to manufacturing cost-effective LiBs.
"Electric vehicles are an important part of the clean energy transition, and Chemours is committed to applying our advanced chemistry and materials science knowledge to accelerate the development of the electric vehicle future," said Gerardo Familiar, president of Chemours Advanced Performance Materials.
According to Chemours, CBIC's equipment and data analysis capabilities can realize predictive models to help electric vehicle manufacturers adopt this novel battery manufacturing technology and contribute to improving the performance of electric vehicles.
