LANXESS cancels sale of chromium oxide business, maintains production in Germany

ECHEMI 2024-08-26

LANXESS will continue to produce chromium oxide pigments at the Krefeld-Uerdingen site and has stopped its original plan to sell the business.

The chromium oxide plant, which employs around 50 people, is used in energy-intensive industries such as ceramics, in the production of refractory materials and for color applications.

"After intensive and lengthy negotiations, we have secured a long-term supply of raw materials for our company. We were also able to identify potential for further improvements along the entire value chain. This improves the framework conditions for the chromium oxide business and enables us to continue operating," said Matthias Zachert, Chairman of the Board of Management of LANXESS AG. "I am particularly pleased that we have been able to keep the employees at the site within the Group."

Chromium oxide pigments are particularly thermally stable and are used in the production of colored glazes or enamels in the ceramic industry and in refractory bricks. They are also used to color various materials.
