Beiersdorf and Macro Biologics Collaborate on Biodegradable Antimicrobial Peptides
Beiersdorf and Macro Biologics, Inc. have entered into a multi-year partnership to jointly develop biodegradable antimicrobial peptides with a wide range of possible applications in skincare and healthcare.
At the same time, Beiersdorf has joined Macro Biologics as an investor through its Oscar & Paul Corporate Ventures arm. By bringing Macro Biologics’ advanced technology in antimicrobial research to the skincare and healthcare ecosystem, Beiersdorf further underscores its ambition to continuously deliver transformative and sustainable innovations to consumers.
The collaboration in this dynamic research area will focus on applying Macro Biologics’ highly effective antimicrobial “Amicidins” to Beiersdorf’s innovative product and formulation development. Amicidins are effective against a wide range of bacteria, meaning they can help alleviate or improve skin conditions, and are designed for early topical application to prevent wound infections. The common goal is to create highly effective, safe and sustainable solutions for a variety of application areas across the Beiersdorf brand portfolio, primarily in skincare and healthcare.
"With this collaboration with Macro Biologics, we are further strengthening Beiersdorf's innovation capabilities in line with our 'Winning with Care' strategy and our ambition to continue to lead in climate care," emphasized Dr. Gitta Neufang, Senior Vice President of Global Research and Development at Beiersdorf. "We are delighted to have found an outstanding partner in the promising field of antimicrobial peptides, who shares our vision for innovation. Together, we are eager to bring Macro Biologics' advanced technologies to the skin care and healthcare sectors."
"We are very excited to be working with Beiersdorf, a global powerhouse in skin care and healthcare," said Dr. Michael Bevilacqua, CEO and Chief Strategy Officer of Macro Biologics. "For Macro, this collaboration is perfect from both a research and commercial perspective. Beiersdorf's deep expertise in product formulation, development and commercialization will enable Amicidins to improve people's lives in all settings. This partnership is based on common principles, as we are both committed to creating sustainable value for people and the environment."
