AkzoNobel Invents Particle Technology for Metallic Effect Powder Coatings

ECHEMI 2024-09-29

Growing customer demand for more sustainable metallic effect architectural finishes led AkzoNobel to develop patented particle technology for a new range of powder coatings.

Scientists in the company’s Powder Coatings business invented the Interpon D Natural Metallic range after identifying a clear market need. It has all the aesthetics and durability that architects and designers seek – delivering outstanding color and performance – but without any of the drawbacks of real metal.

The new range uses patented stabilized particle technology to achieve more concentrated, deeper metallic effects than conventional metallic powder coatings.

“Our team of scientists and color experts are at the forefront of innovation and creative excellence, and are continually working with our customers to serve them,” said Frank Vergeer, Director of Research and Development for AkzoNobel’s Powder Coatings business.

“With this new product, we are not only enabling architects and designers to reimagine how to create stunning metallic effects, but also meeting their desire for a more sustainable world by overcoming the cost and practical handling considerations of using real metals.”

Designed to protect and enhance performance in even the most challenging environments, the new range features a variety of ultra-durable popular finishes, from copper, brass, steel and nickel to silver and iron.

Like all Interpon products, it contains no Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) and is more sustainable to apply as any overspray can be captured and reused, creating virtually no waste.
