Kemira to close Vancouver pulp and paper chemicals plant

ECHEMI 2024-11-01

Finnish chemicals company Kemira has announced plans to consolidate some of its pulp and paper chemicals production in North America, thereby closing a manufacturing plant in Vancouver, Canada. The Vancouver plant produces process and functional chemicals for the pulp and paper division.

Kemira expects production at the plant to end in the first half of 2025 and will move to Kemira's US plant in Washougal, Washington, where the company already produces process and functional chemicals.

The merger is intended to streamline the operating efficiency of Kemira's North American business in response to changing market conditions. Kemira said the merger is unrelated to its new operating model and planned changes to its organizational structure announced in the third quarter of 2024.

Kemira said the merger will not affect its customers.
