2025 Breakthrough Trinseo Launches Game-Changing PC Recycling in Zhangjiagang
On April 20, Trinseo announced the launch of its recycled polycarbonate (PC) project at its Zhangjiagang site, marking a pivotal moment in the company’s journey toward circularity. This initiative leverages Trinseo’s proprietary solvent-based technology, enabling efficient recovery of high-performance PC materials from complex waste streams.
Following a full year of technical and commercial evaluation in 2024, the company confirmed that its dissolution recycling project will be anchored at its largest Asia-Pacific production base. Unlike conventional mechanical recycling, Trinseo’s solvent approach can extract PC even from contaminated or mixed plastic waste, such as automotive parts and electronics, significantly expanding what’s recyclable.
The project has earned strong support from local authorities. Last month, senior leadership including Han Hendriks and Yang Bing met with Zhangjiagang officials, who pledged full backing for the facility’s development. Local government emphasized the project’s environmental importance and its role in advancing regional sustainability goals.
Trinseo Polymers (Zhangjiagang) Co., Ltd., established in 1998, now stands as the company’s key hub in Asia, and this investment reinforces Trinseo’s long-term commitment to the Chinese market. By integrating cutting-edge recycling capabilities into existing infrastructure, the company aims to reduce plastic waste and offer customers sustainable PC solutions that support low-carbon innovation across industries.
As global pressure mounts to curb plastic pollution, Trinseo’s bold move sets a new benchmark for circular plastics. The Zhangjiagang project is poised to become a regional model for green transformation, where advanced recycling technology meets industrial scale. Trinseo’s leadership in this space signals a critical shift in how the plastics industry approaches sustainability—not as an option, but as an imperative.
