Kraton to Exit Dimer and Polyamide Business Lines, Close Dover Plant
Kraton Corporation announced a strategic realignment of its business to enhance core strengths and drive long-term growth. As part of this strategic realignment, the company will discontinue production of its dimer and polyamide product lines and close its manufacturing facility in Dover, Ohio.
The decision is part of Kraton’s broader move to streamline operations and focus resources on its pine chemicals business. The company also operates a polymer manufacturing facility in Belpre, Ohio, which is not affected.
“Our strategy is clear: focus on where we have the greatest impact and create the most value,” said Minco van Breevoort, president of Kraton Pine Chemicals. “By simplifying operations, we can more effectively allocate investments to our core pine chemical assets and innovation.”
Brevoort noted that the company’s crude tall oil (CTO) refining business will not be impacted by the decision. He added that the move will enhance Kraton’s ability to provide customers with tall oil fatty acid supplies.
Kraton emphasized its commitment to supporting its affected employees and local communities throughout the transition. "We recognize the impact of this decision and are committed to ensuring a safe, respectful and supportive transition process," the company said in a statement. "The health, safety and well-being of our employees and the Dover community remain our top priority."
With operations across multiple continents and a diversified portfolio of specialtychemical solutions, Kraton said it will continue to leverage its global presence to respond to market changes and customer needs. The company will continue to focus on providing operational excellence, high-quality service and value to its stakeholders.
Kraton did not provide a specific timeline for closing the Dover plant, but said it would share further updates as the transition progresses.
Kraton, headquartered in Houston, USA, is a leading producer of specialty polymers and bio-based chemicals. The reorganization reflects the company's commitment to enhancing competitiveness and focusing on high-value growth opportunities in the global specialty chemical market.
