Zhongke Electric to Invest $1.1 Billion in Lithium-Ion Battery Anode Material Plant in Oman
Hunan Zhongke Electric Co., Ltd., a listed Chinese battery materials manufacturer, announced plans to invest approximately $1.1 billion to build Oman's first lithium-ion battery anode material production base. The project will have the capacity to produce 200,000 tons of lithium-ion battery anode materials per year.
The proposed plant will be located in the Sohar Port and Free Zone in Oman. The construction will be carried out in two phases. Each phase will add 100,000 tons of annual production capacity, and the construction period for each phase is expected to be approximately 36 months. When fully operational, the plant will be one of the largest of its kind in the region.
Zhongke Electric focuses on the research and development, production and sales of graphite-based anode materials for lithium-ion batteries. These materials are key components in batteries for consumer electronics, electric vehicles and energy storage systems. In addition to battery materials, the company also produces electromagnetic equipment and a range of industrial products. Its customers include leading battery manufacturers in China and global markets.
By launching this large-scale project in Oman, Zhongke aims to take advantage of the changing dynamics of the global lithium-ion battery supply chain. The company sees the Oman plant as a gateway to international markets, especially those in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. The project is also in line with Zhongke's grand strategy to build a leading global brand in the field of battery materials.
The planned investment is part of a series of clean energy-related projects currently under development in Oman. In addition to ongoing investments in solar photovoltaics, polysilicon manufacturing, wind turbine components and green hydrogen energy, the lithium battery materials project will further consolidate Oman's position as a competitive base for clean energy exports.
Officials and analysts expect the project to bring significant economic benefits to Oman, including job creation, technology transfer and diversification of Oman's industrial base. The project supports the goals of Oman's "Vision 2040" to attract high-value foreign direct investment and transform to a knowledge-based sustainable economy.
