Mitsubishi Chemical Nantong PMMA Plant to Relocate
Mitsubishi Chemical announced on June 16 that it has decided to relocate its PMMA (polymethyl methacrylate) plant in China, Mitsubishi Chemical Polymer Materials (Nantong) Co., Ltd.
Since 2001, Mitsubishi Chemical Polymer Materials (Nantong) Co., Ltd. has been producing and operating PMMA in the North District of Nantong Economic and Technological Development Zone, Jiangsu Province. In accordance with the local government's requirements for ecological and environmental protection along the Yangtze River, it has decided to relocate to the South District of Nantong Economic and Technological Development Zone.
Mitsubishi Chemical said that China accounts for about 40% of global PMMA demand and is one of the most important markets for its PMMA business. In order to achieve the "New Medium-term Business Plan 2029" announced in November 2024 and promote further growth in China's PMMA market share, it is essential to maintain and develop a manufacturing and sales base locally.
It is reported that the new plant has an annual PMMA production capacity of 60,000 tons, and is scheduled to start construction in the first quarter of 2026 and start production in the third quarter of 2028.
