Stahl Launches Ultra-Functional Carbodiimide Crosslinker for High-Performance Coatings
Stahl, a supplier of specialty coatings and treatments for flexible substrates, has launched Syncros™, a next-generation ultra-functional carbodiimide crosslinker designed to bring high performance and sustainability to leather finishing. With the launch of this new patented technology, Stahl further strengthens its commitment to providing an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional crosslinkers while maintaining the highest reactivity, efficiency and durability.
Crosslinkers are critical in the coating process, improving the durability and performance of high-performance coatings, packaging coatings and leather finishing applications. However, traditional crosslinkers such as aziridines and isocyanates pose significant health and environmental risks due to their toxicity, requiring strict handling precautions. Syncros™ offers a safer, next-generation alternative for leather finishing that eliminates these concerns while delivering superior performance.
Developed by Stahl’s advanced R&D center, Syncros ™ XR-55-400 is designed for waterborne topcoats and primers and offers superior durability, flexibility and efficiency. Key benefits include:
Low toxicity as verified by an external accredited laboratory;
Contains no carcinogenic, mutagenic and reprotoxic (CMR) substances;
Pot life of 4 to 6 hours, which may be longer depending on the mixture;
Enhanced durability with strong resistance to abrasion, stains and chemicals;
Non-yellowing for long-term beauty;
Strong adhesion for superior coating performance.
The launch of Syncros™ comes at a time when the industry is transitioning to greener chemical solutions, with increasing regulatory pressure and rising consumer awareness. By offering a sustainable alternative to traditional hazardous crosslinkers, Stahl is leading the industry’s shift towards safer, future-proof solutions without compromising the high performance standards expected in leather finishing applications.
With Syncros™ XR-55-400, customers can now achieve best-in-class leather finishing results that enhance product durability while following responsible production practices. At Stahl, we are committed to developing solutions that touch lives for a better world.
