Costs Overshadowed by Negative Factors on the 19th; Polyester Bottle Flakes Market Shifts Lower
September 19, News
According to price data, on September 19, 2025, the average selling price of PET in China was 5870 CNY/ton, a decrease of 0.35% from the beginning of the week. The overall price of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) showed a weak downward trend.
Cost support has significantly weakened: The international crude oil market declined amid growing market concerns triggered by weaker-than-expected U.S. economic data, while PTA prices remained weak and volatile, making it difficult to provide effective support for bottle chip costs.
Supply pressure still exists: China's polyester bottle chip production increased by 0.11 million tons to 33.03 million tons, with the capacity utilization rate slightly increasing by 0.23% to 72.31%. The market has ample spot supply, which continues to limit the space for price rebound.
The demand side remains weak: Downstream end-users, such as the soft drink packaging industry, primarily rely on rigid demand procurement. Additionally, we are currently in a seasonal slow period, leaving the market lacking momentum for significant volume growth and resulting in fewer inquiries.
Market sentiment is cautious: Under the pattern of "weak costs and weak demand," market trading atmosphere is generally subdued, and the overall sentiment is cautious.
Polyester bottle flake prices are expected to remain weakly volatile, trading within the range of 5,750–5,900 CNY per ton. Whether the market can stabilize will largely depend on whether costs—specifically crude oil and PTA prices—stop their decline and begin to recover, as well as on whether downstream demand shows any meaningful improvement.
