FDA Names Veteran Oncology Regulator Pazdur as Director of Drug Review Center
In a major regulatory leadership decision, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has appointed Dr. Richard Pazdur, a long-time oncology expert, as the director of its Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER). Pazdur, who has been with the FDA since 1999 and previously led the Oncology Center of Excellence, is known for his regulatory innovation and deep expertise.
His track record includes expediting cancer drug approvals and championing patient-centric regulation. Colleagues and patient advocacy groups have praised his scientific integrity and compassion-driven leadership.
This appointment comes amid a broader shake-up at the FDA, and brings a steady, experienced hand to one of the agency’s most critical divisions — which oversees both prescription and over-the-counter medicines.
