Another Strategic Move! DuPont Launches a New Specialty Lubricants Project in Zhangjiagang
In November, DuPont held a groundbreaking ceremony for its new MOLYKOTE specialty lubricants plant in Zhangjiagang, Jiangsu Province, marking an important step forward in expanding MOLYKOTE’s global production capacity, customer responsiveness, and regional innovation. The plant, located in the Jiangsu Yangtze River International Chemical Industrial Park within the Zhangjiagang Free Trade Zone, is scheduled to begin operations in early 2027.
As a key component of DuPont’s long-term strategic layout in China, the launch of this high-performance specialty lubricants project follows the “DuPont China Manufacturing Base (Zhangjiagang)” agreement signed between DuPont and the city of Zhangjiagang in 2018. The first-phase adhesives project at the base has already been successfully commissioned, and the new project will further enhance the site’s industrial capabilities and technological strength.
The new plant will produce a diverse range of products, including anti-friction coatings, compounds, dispersions, greases, oils, fluids, and pastes, aiming to meet the strong demand for advanced lubrication solutions in China’s transportation, industrial, energy, and electronics sectors. According to DuPont, establishing local production and R&D capabilities will help shorten delivery cycles, increase flexibility, and strengthen close collaboration with customers, enabling faster and more precise delivery of next-generation lubricant formulations and application solutions.
“The groundbreaking ceremony marks the beginning of a new chapter. We will be able to serve our customers in China better, accelerate innovation, and become the preferred partner for addressing wear and friction challenges across industries,” said Tui Kaino, General Manager of DuPont MOLYKOTE.
Zhang Yi, DuPont’s Vice President and Regional President for Asia Pacific, added: “This manufacturing base will enable us to meet both current and future demands in the specialty lubricants market. It reflects our confidence in the long-term potential of our customers in China and the Asia-Pacific region, and reinforces our commitment to delivering faster, more reliable, and locally relevant solutions.”
DuPont MOLYKOTE’s specialty lubricants business operates production and R&D facilities across North America, Europe, and the Asia-Pacific region. The new Zhangjiagang plant will further strengthen this global network while supporting DuPont’s efforts to meet local market needs, drive regional innovation, and enhance industrial collaboration.
