This Week’s Petrocoke Market Prices Rise
December 28th News
According to the commodity analysis system, the price of petcoke from local refineries in China has significantly dropped this week. As of December 26, the price of petcoke in the Shandong market was 2,540.75 CNY/ton, an increase of 3.99% compared to 2,443.25 CNY/ton on December 22.
This week, international crude oil prices rose, mainly due to the ongoing heightened tensions in the U.S.-Venezuela situation and the increasing instability in the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Concerns about potential supply risks remain persistent, driving up international oil prices.
This week, the overall price of petroleum coke from local refineries in China has risen. The shipment from refineries is moderate, with prices fluctuating. Additionally, as some refineries have adjusted their specifications, the price of coke has changed significantly according to these adjustments. Downstream buyers are mainly purchasing based on their needs, providing limited support to the petroleum coke market. This week, a large number of ships arrived at the ports, mostly carrying high-sulfur sponge coke. The shipping speed from the ports is relatively slow, leading to a slight increase in the inventory of petroleum coke at the ports.
This week, the price of medium and high sulfur calcined coke in China saw a slight increase, mainly due to the rise in the price of upstream petroleum coke. Downstream buyers are mostly adopting a wait-and-see attitude, and companies are cautious about placing new orders. The price of medium and high sulfur calcined coke remains stable overall.
Market Forecast: Currently, transactions of petroleum coke from independent refineries are moderate. Downstream aluminum-carbon enterprises generally maintain good operating rates and continue to purchase petroleum coke at a steady pace. Demand for pre-baked anodes remains relatively stable. It is expected that petroleum coke prices will likely consolidate within a narrow range in the near term.
