Metso Expands Wear Parts Capacity in China with New Rubber Factory in Quzhou

ECHEMI 2026-01-16

Finnish mining and aggregates solutions provider Metso is investing in the construction of a brand-new rubber products factory in Quzhou, Zhejiang Province, China, to meet growing market demand and further strengthen its local service capabilities.

The new facility will manufacture rubber mill linings, composite rubber-steel linings, and Trellex® screens, with product designs focused on enhanced performance and operational reliability. Once operational, the plant will significantly expand Metso’s supply of high-quality, high-reliability rubber and rubber-steel composite wear parts in the Chinese market, enabling stable delivery and superior performance for customers.

This project forms a key part of Metso’s strategy to deepen its presence in core customer markets and strengthen local operations. By expanding its manufacturing footprint in China, Metso will leverage localized production and supply chain capabilities to improve customer responsiveness, shorten delivery lead times, and provide more comprehensive service support.

According to the plan, the rubber screen production line at the new plant is scheduled to begin operations in the first quarter of 2026. The mill lining production line will incorporate advanced manufacturing technologies to enable efficient, high-quality production of larger and more complex rubber and rubber-steel composite components, with commissioning expected by the end of the first half of 2026.

Saso Kitanoski, President of Metso’s Consumables business, commented:“This investment responds to the rapidly growing demand in the mining sector for high-performance wear parts, particularly from Chinese customers who expect products that meet global standards. Quzhou is an ideal location, as it already hosts our world-class foundry. Once the new rubber products plant is operational, we will be able to offer customers a complete portfolio of mill linings and screens in rubber, rubber-steel composite, and metallic materials, further strengthening our technological leadership and core competitiveness.”

As a global technology leader, Metso supplies mill linings and screening solutions to major mines worldwide. These products are designed to improve equipment reliability and operational performance, extend service life, and optimize cost efficiency, safety, and sustainability across the entire grinding, crushing, and screening process.

Liang Xiaofeng, President of Metso Greater China, stated:“This investment will deliver direct value to our Chinese customers. Localized manufacturing will significantly shorten delivery times. Supported by local supply chains and R&D capabilities, we can respond more flexibly to customer needs, provide high-quality customized products that meet Metso’s global standards, and deliver timely technical support and services. This reflects Metso’s long-term commitment to the Chinese market.”

The new rubber products factory will be located adjacent to Metso’s Quzhou foundry, which primarily produces metallic wear parts for customers in China and globally. The co-location of the two facilities will help optimize logistics, enhance collaboration between production and supply chain teams, and enable faster responses to customer requirements.

In addition to manufacturing, Metso has invested in R&D laboratories in China to support local product development and technological innovation.

In 2025, Metso further expanded its local screening equipment portfolio and supply chain capabilities by acquiring the screening business and related assets of Selm (Beijing) Technology Co., Ltd., a Chinese screening equipment company with established expertise and manufacturing experience in fine and ultra-fine screening. This acquisition has strengthened Metso’s offering of screening equipment and screening wear parts for the mining and aggregates industries in China.

Together with the construction of the new rubber products factory, Metso has established a comprehensive localized manufacturing and service system in China, covering foundry operations, rubber and rubber-steel composite wear parts, screening equipment, and screening wear parts—continuously enhancing its support for customers in the Chinese mining and aggregates industries.
