Post-holiday Maleic Anhydride Prices Rise in China

According to the commodity analysis system, after the holiday, the maleic anhydride prices in China have risen. As of February 26, the average market price for maleic anhydride produced by the n-butane oxidation method remained at 5,300 CNY/ton, a 0.95% increase from 5,250 CNY/ton on February 23.

Supply side: After the holiday, the maleic anhydride market continued to rise. Post-holiday, the auction prices of Wanhua continued to increase, with good transaction conditions, supporting the maleic anhydride market. The main factories of maleic anhydride raised their prices, but the downstream unsaturated resins are still in the early stage of resuming production, and new orders are limited. As of February 26, in the Shandong region, the factory price of solid maleic anhydride was around 5000 CNY/ton, and the factory price of liquid maleic anhydride was around 4750 CNY/ton.

On the upstream side: After the holiday, the spot price of n-butane saw a slight decline. In February, Saudi CP prices were raised by $20 to $540 per ton. As of February 26, the price in Shandong stood at around 4,520 CNY per ton.

Downstream: After the holiday, the unsaturated resins market in China gradually resumes operations, with the market mainly in a wait-and-see mode, providing limited support to unsaturated resins.

The maleic anhydride product analyst believes that currently, the main downstream of maleic anhydride, unsaturated resins, are gradually resuming operations; maleic anhydride manufacturers in China have no inventory pressure, and it is expected that the maleic anhydride market may show an upward trend in the near future.
