This week, the price of polyester bottle chips fluctuated and rose

ECHEMI 2026-04-18

April 17th News

As of Friday, April 17, 2026, the polyester bottle flake market this week (April 13–April 17) has shown a volatile upward trend—starting low at the beginning of the week, rebounding mid-week, and remaining firm over the weekend. This trend is primarily driven by strong cost support and tight spot supply, yet downstream demand remains weak, limiting transaction volumes.

I. This Week’s Price Data (According to the data, East China water bottle grade, mainstream transaction prices)

•Early week (Apr. 13–14): Prices ranged from 8,450 to 8,550 CNY/ton, as oil prices edged lower and downstream players adopted a wait-and-see approach, leading the market to trade in a relatively weak and stable manner.

•Mid-week (April 15–16): PTA maintenance shutdowns are boosting sentiment, pushing up costs, and prompting manufacturers to hold firm on prices, leading to a gradual upward trend in prices.

• Weekend (April 17): Spot supply remained tight at 8,600–8,750 CNY/ton, with firm quotes. The weekly average price was approximately 8,580 CNY/ton.

II. Analysis of Core Driving Factors

1. Cost side: Driving the increase (strong support)

• Crude Oil: With the situation in the Middle East remaining volatile, Brent crude has been experiencing sharp fluctuations at a high level of $110–$120 per barrel, with the overall price center of gravity remaining relatively high.

•PTA: Major plants in China are undergoing concentrated maintenance, leading to a strong expectation of tighter supply. This has strengthened prices and directly increased the production costs of bottle chips.

2. Supply side: Spot supply is tight (secondary support)

•The industry operating rate is about 72.95%, with some facilities still under maintenance, and there is not much supply in the market.

• Manufacturers' inventories are low (about 10.28 days), and there is a strong desire to hold back from selling and to maintain prices.

3. Demand side: Weak and sluggish (mainly suppressing)

•Downstream beverages, sheets, etc., have a low acceptance of high prices, and purchases are mostly small orders for immediate needs, bought as needed.

• Although it is peak season, the cost increase is too large, leading to resistance from downstream sectors, and overall transactions are light.

III. Technical Analysis

According to the commodity market analysis system, the future trend of PET polyester chip can be analyzed from two dimensions:

When the 10-day moving average is above the 20-day moving average, the probability of an uptrend is higher. Conversely, the probability is lower. In the past half month, the 10-day and 20-day moving averages of PET polyester chips in China have repeatedly shown a state of intertwining, indicating that the trend is in a phase of fluctuation.

The short-term moving average (10-day) and the medium-term moving average (20-day) for PET polyester bottle flakes are “entangled,” indicating a volatile trend.

2. Current location.

Now, the 10-day, 20-day, and 30-day positions of PET polyester bottle chips in China are all at the median level, and the sum of the positions for the 10-day/20-day/30-day cycles is greater than 9 points.

III. Outlook for Next Week (starting April 20)

•Price range: Expected to fluctuate at a high level within the range of 8,500–9,300 CNY/ton.

• Main Logic:

◦Positive factors: PTA maintenance continues, cost support remains strong, and the tight spot market situation is unlikely to change.

◦ Negative factors: Downstream continues to resist high prices, making it difficult for genuine demand to increase significantly.

•Conclusion: Prices in China are more likely to rise than fall, with a strong fluctuation trend. The average weekly price may slightly increase to 8,680 CNY/ton.
