Stabilizing Prices Proves Challenging as Titanium Dioxide Prices in China Fall in June

ECHEMI 2026-06-27

June 26th News

I. Price Trends

Taking the sulfuric acid method rutile titanium dioxide, which has a large sales volume in the Chinese market, as an example, according to data monitoring, the price of titanium dioxide in China fell in June. On June 1st, the average price of titanium dioxide was 17,200 CNY/ton, and on June 26th, the average price was 16,460 CNY/ton, a decrease of 4.3%.

2. Market Analysis

In June, the market price of titanium dioxide fell. Upstream raw material titanium concentrate was weakly organized, and the price of sulfuric acid continued to rise due to the overall tight supply in the sulfur market, putting pressure on high costs. However, the downstream market is in a low season, and factories and traders are not actively purchasing, mostly buying as needed, which puts significant pressure on manufacturers' sales. The market price of titanium dioxide is operating weakly. So far, the prices of Chinese sulfate process rutile titanium dioxide are mostly between 15,600-18,000 CNY/ton; anatase type is around 14,200-14,600 CNY/ton. The market for titanium dioxide is mostly holding a wait-and-see attitude, with flexible trading, and actual transaction prices are negotiated on a case-by-case basis.

According to customs data, China imported 5,275.81 tons of titanium dioxide in May 2026, a decrease of 29.35% year-on-year and an increase of 4.40% month-on-month. Among these, imports of chloride process titanium dioxide were 2,840.17 tons, an increase of 9.36% month-on-month, while imports of sulfate process titanium dioxide were 2,435.63 tons, a decrease of 0.84% month-on-month. From January to May 2026, the cumulative imports of titanium dioxide were approximately 25,900 tons, a decrease of 25.67% year-on-year. Among these, imports of chloride process titanium dioxide were 15,599.98 tons, a decrease of 22.19% year-on-year, and imports of sulfate process titanium dioxide were 10,297.76 tons, a decrease of 30.39% year-on-year.

According to customs data, China exported approximately 152,800 tons of titanium dioxide in May 2026, a year-on-year increase of 12.63% and a month-on-month decrease of 21.05%. Among these, sulfuric acid method titanium dioxide exports amounted to about 118,400 tons, a month-on-month decrease of 21.43%, and chloride method titanium dioxide exports were 34,400 tons, a month-on-month decrease of 19.74%. From January to May 2026, the cumulative export of titanium dioxide reached 883,000 tons, a year-on-year increase of 12.55%. Sulfuric acid method titanium dioxide exports totaled 670,100 tons, a 6.07% increase from the previous year, and chloride method titanium dioxide exports were approximately 213,000 tons, a 39.35% increase from the previous year.

III. Future Market Forecast

Titanium dioxide analysts believe: Currently, China's titanium dioxide market is in the off-season for demand. Under the dual pressures of manufacturers' shipments and costs, market transaction prices are quite chaotic. More attention should be paid to the plans of leading enterprises for next month. It is expected that the titanium dioxide market will mainly operate weakly and steadily in the short term.
