August 27 News

I. Price Trends

Taking the sulfate method rutile titanium dioxide, which has a large sales volume in the Chinese market, as an example, according to data monitoring, the price of titanium dioxide in China fell in August. The average price of titanium dioxide on August 1st was 15,460 CNY per ton, and on August 27th, it was 14,060 CNY per ton, a decrease of 9.06%.

2. Market Analysis

In August, the price of titanium dioxide in China fell. The prices of upstream raw materials, such as titanium concentrate and sulfuric acid, were weak. Downstream demand remained sluggish, with a strong wait-and-see attitude from end-users. Titanium dioxide factory inventories varied, with some factories having low inventory levels. Titanium Sea announced a price increase, but overall, the acceptance by end-users was limited. The overall supply of titanium dioxide exceeded demand, putting significant pressure on the market, and prices remained weak and stable. So far, the prices of titanium dioxide produced by the sulfuric acid method, for rutile type, are mostly between 13,300 and 15,000 CNY per ton; for anatase type, they are around 12,600 to 13,000 CNY per ton. The market participants mainly adopted a wait-and-see attitude, with flexible trading, and actual transaction prices were negotiated on a case-by-case basis.

According to customs data, in July 2026, China imported 5,431.12 tons of titanium dioxide, a decrease of 25.67% year-on-year and 9.73% month-on-month. Among these, 3,253.15 tons were imported using the chloride process, a decrease of 13.02% month-on-month, and 2,177.97 tons were imported using the sulfate process, a decrease of 4.32% month-on-month. From January to July 2026, China's cumulative import volume of titanium dioxide was approximately 37,300 tons, a decrease of 20.61% year-on-year. By process, the import volume of titanium dioxide using the chloride process was 22,593.43 tons, a decrease of 21.72% compared to the same period last year; the import volume of titanium dioxide using the sulfate process was 14,752.13 tons, a decrease of 18.84% year-on-year.

According to customs data, in July 2026, China exported approximately 144,400 tons of titanium dioxide, a year-on-year increase of 7.10% and a month-on-month decrease of 22.07%. Among these, the sulfate process accounted for about 105,300 tons, a month-on-month decrease of 23.41%, and the chloride process accounted for 39,100 tons, a month-on-month decrease of 18.21%. From January to July 2026, China's cumulative exports of titanium dioxide reached 1,212,100 tons, a year-on-year increase of 15.35%. The sulfate process contributed 912,900 tons, a year-on-year increase of 7.45%, and the chloride process contributed approximately 299,900 tons, a year-on-year increase of 48.62%.

3. Future Market Forecast

Titanium dioxide analysts believe: Currently, the demand for titanium dioxide in China is weak, with the demand side still not picking up, and many in the market are adopting a wait-and-see attitude. It is expected that the titanium dioxide market will mainly operate in a weak but stable manner in the short term.
