Solvay launches sustainable high-performance polyamide
On May 19, Solvay announced that it will launch Kalix 10000, an ideal structural material for the manufacture of precision electronic components for smart devices, further expanding the Kalix product portfolio. This latest high-performance polyamide material promises to take performance and sustainability to a whole new level.
According to Andrew Lau, senior executive vice president of Solvay's Materials Division, Kalix 10000 is a partially bio-based material that is produced using 100% renewable electricity in addition to renewable, non-food-competitive raw materials. Kalix 10000 can also be customized according to different customer needs, with a variety of different recycled material versions, compared to conventional polyamides, has a lower global warming potential. In addition, Kalix 10000 has higher heat resistance, stain resistance and lower moisture absorption than other Kalix series products, suitable for customers' more demanding electronic applications. Lau emphasized that Kalix 10000 further strengthens the Kalix product portfolio. Not only does it go far enough to meet the performance requirements for precision structural and outer parts of smartphones, but as a more sustainable solution, Kalix 10000 can meet the ever-increasing customer demands.
Consumer electronics and their components have a short average lifespan, which generates a lot of electronic waste and causes sustainability issues, Lau said. In response, Solvay has developed advanced technologies to help manufacturers achieve closed-loop management from product design to production.
