70 years: from shortage of supply to the world's largest energy producer

Since the founding of New China 70 years ago, China's energy development has made remarkable achievements, achieved a historic leap, and provided a solid and favorable foundation for China's economic and social development and the improvement of people's livelihood. On September 20, the State New Office held a press conference. Zhang Jianhua, Director-General of the State Energy Administration, introduced 70 years'achievements in energy development and answered questions from Chinese and foreign journalists.
Open up a new road for energy development with Chinese characteristics
158 times, with an average annual growth of 7.6%... Over the past 70 years, China's energy supply structure has been continuously optimized and its quality has been continuously improved. A Multi-wheel-driven multi-supply system of coal, oil, gas, nuclear, new energy and renewable energy has been formed, which has developed from "one poor and two white" on the basis of energy industry to the world's largest energy producer.
"Since the founding of New China 70 years ago, under the strong leadership of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council, China's energy sector has made great achievements in self-reliance, hard struggle, overcoming difficulties, pioneering and enterprising, and attracted worldwide attention." Zhang Jianhua pointed out that, especially since the Eighteenth National Congress of the CPC, the CPC Central Committee, with Comrade Xi Jinping as its core, has creatively put forward a new energy security strategy of "four revolutions and one cooperation", pointing out the way forward for energy development in the new era of our country and opening up a new road for energy development with Chinese characteristics.
70 years, China's energy industry has transformed from a shortage of supply to an overall relaxation, and embarked on a new road of strong multi-wheel drive and sound security system. Data show that in 2018, China's primary energy output was 3.77 billion tons of standard coal, 158 times that of 1949. Among them, coal output was 3.68 billion tons, crude oil output was 190 million tons, natural gas output was 160 billion square meters and power generation was 7111.8 billion kWh, which increased 114 times, 1574.9 times, 22894.7 times and 1652.9 times over 1949 respectively; coal, hydropower, wind and solar power generation installed capacity ranked the first in the world, nuclear power installed capacity ranked the third in the world and the scale under construction. First in the world, the installed proportion of clean energy power generation has increased to about 40%. Major routes have been constructed, such as West-to-East Gas Transmission, West-to-East Electricity Transmission and North-to-South Coal Transport, forming an energy pipeline network spanning East-West, running north-south, covering the whole country and connecting overseas.
Great change from "one coal is dominant" to "clean green"
The proportion of coal consumption dropped by 9.5%, historically dropped to below 60%, the energy consumption per unit GDP decreased by 23.3%, the proportion of non-fossil energy consumption increased to 14.3%, the proportion of natural gas consumption increased to 7.8%, and the proportion of electricity consumption in terminal energy consumption increased to 25.5%. In the past 70 years, China's energy industry has achieved a great transformation from "one coal is dominant" to "clean and green", and has embarked on a new path of energy saving, consumption reduction and intensive and efficient.
"Influenced by China's energy resources endowment, coal accounted for more than 90% of the total energy consumption in the early days of the founding of New China; in the nearly 30 years after the reform and opening up, the proportion of coal accounted for more than 70%. Zhang Jianhua told reporters that since the Eighteenth National Congress of the CPC, the State Energy Administration has firmly implemented the priority policy of energy conservation, put energy conservation throughout the whole process of economic and social development, accelerated the formation of an energy-saving society, accelerated the transformation of traditional energy use modes, accelerated the pace of clean low-carbon transformation, and formed the "two declines". The good situation of "Three Promotions".
Ten million tons of comprehensive coal mining, tertiary oil recovery and oil and gas development in complex blocks have reached the world's leading level; the largest clean coal-electricity system in the world has been built, and the emission index of atmospheric pollutants has leaped to the world's advanced level; the largest power grid in the world has been built, and the level of safe operation and reliability of power supply ranks first in the world. List... Over the past 70 years, in the field of energy technology, China has achieved a great change from following imitation to parallel leading, and has embarked on a new road of power conversion and innovation and development.
The new generation of three generation nuclear power generating units has a comprehensive localization rate of 85%, and deepwater drilling and shale gas exploration and development technologies have achieved major breakthroughs. A large number of major projects representing the international advanced level have been put into operation, and a large number of new energy technologies, new formats and new modes of "Internet +" smart energy, energy storage and comprehensive energy services have been put into operation. Speeding up cultivation and vigorous rise has become a hot spot of innovation and creation in China... Over the past 70 years, through the introduction, absorption and independent innovation, China's energy system technology and equipment level has continuously improved.
Build five major international oil and gas cooperation zones, four major oil and gas import strategic channels, and a large number of advanced energy technology and equipment go abroad and into the world... Over the past 70 years, in terms of international cooperation, China has achieved a tremendous transformation from relatively closed to all-round open cooperation, embarked on a new road of building and sharing through consultation and participating in the reform of International Energy Governance in depth, and has sung China's voice in the world energy arena.
Zhang Jianhua pointed out that China has fully developed energy exchanges and cooperation with other countries in the world, and has made great efforts to promote the "one belt and one way" energy cooperation, expanding its breadth and depth. Close cooperation has been achieved with major international energy organizations such as the Energy Charter, the International Energy Agency and the International Renewable Energy Agency. 58 bilateral cooperation mechanisms have been established, 33 multilateral cooperation mechanisms have been involved and more than 100 cooperation agreements have been signed. Energy cooperation is a key point in the construction of "one belt and one road". At present, it has achieved very good results, advocating the establishment of a "one belt and one way" energy partnership, promoting the establishment of the SCO energy club and other important international activities, and developing energy cooperation plans with more than 10 countries and regions along the way. The next step will be five.
