Sierbang 70,000 Tons/Year DMC and Other Projects Started Construction

At the beginning of August, the groundbreaking ceremony of the EC/DMC unit of the Sierbon petrochemical project was held, marking the official start of the construction of the Sierbon petrochemical project.

The unit will utilize EO and CO₂-rich tail gas from Sierbon Petrochemical's existing EO unit to produce EC/DMC. After completion, it will greatly reduce the carbon emissions of Sierbond, extend its EO industrial chain, and realize the further growth of Sierbond's corporate benefits while protecting the environment and avoiding the risk of restricted ethylene oxide transportation.

Project content: Under the condition that the existing EO reactor and other devices remain unchanged, the reconstruction and expansion project can appropriately change the operating conditions of the reaction by replacing the catalyst with higher selectivity, so as to improve the production capacity of the EO reactor, and improve the production capacity of the follow-up system. Carry out appropriate transformation to expand the production capacity of the device, and increase the production capacity of the EO device from the original design of 200,000 tons/year to 300,000 tons/year.

Sierbang plans to expand the EO production capacity to 300,000 tons/year, build a 100,000-ton/year CO₂ purification and recovery unit, a 100,000-ton/year EC unit, a 70,000-ton/year DMC unit, a 100,000-ton/year EOD unit, 20,000 tons/year ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene plant, 800 tons/year POE pilot plant, 100,000 tons/year CO₂ green methanol plant, retrofit existing 100,000 tons/year butadiene plant and add butene- 1 The production capacity is 39,060 tons/year.


Other projects of Sierbang

The projects under construction in Sierbang are mainly the second-phase propane industry chain projects. The project has an annual output of 700,000 tons of propylene (PDH), 27,600 tons of pure hydrogen, 520,000 tons of acrylonitrile (AN), 15,600 tons of acetonitrile, 180,000 tons of methyl methacrylate (MMA) and 210,000 tons of waste acid Regeneration (SAR) plant production capacity. After the project is completed, the production capacity of the acrylonitrile plant in the whole plant will reach 1,047,900 tons/year, and the production capacity of the MMA plant will reach 41,700 tons/year.

On April 19, 2021, Sierbang and the Ordos Municipal Government of Inner Mongolia signed an investment agreement for the green new material circular economy industrial park project. The total investment of the project is 127 billion yuan, which will be constructed in two phases: the first phase investment is 67 billion yuan, the main construction Methanol and downstream production of acetic acid, formaldehyde, acrylic acid, 1.8 million tons/year of olefins, degradable plastics, superabsorbent resins and other high-end new materials and fine chemical products are planned to be fully completed by August 2024. The second phase, with an investment of 60 billion yuan, mainly builds methanol, methanol-to-olefins and new downstream chemical material plant projects, which are expected to be completed in August 2030.
