China丨Ethanethiol project will be built to crack Clethodim production limitation

Recently, the project’s environmental impact assessment of Runtaihe was published on the relevant website for the first time.

Runtaihe plans to build an annual output of 10,000 tons of mercaptan products in Guazhou’s Coal Chemical Industry Park in Gansu province.

The construction contents include: construction of 14,000 square meters of central control room, production workshop, filling workshop, warehouse, duty room. And the company also will purchase and install one production line of Ethanethiol, N-butanethiol and 1-Octanethiol and supporting auxiliary facilities.

Ethanethiol is a colorless transparent liquid, slightly soluble in water, easily soluble in Alkali and Alcohol and Ether, with a strong, durable and irritating garlic odor. As a deodorant, it is widely used in natural gas and coal gas. And a more important use of Ethanethiol is in pesticide production. It also can produce Clethodim, Organophosphorus pesticides and so on. At present, the continuous shortage of Ethanethiol’s supply has limited the production of pesticide manufacturers.
