What are the products from the reaction of a solution of magnesium hydroxide and hydrochloric acid?
Below is the reaction of a solution of magnesium hydroxide and hydrochloric acid:
Mg(OH)₂ + 2 HCl -> MgCl₂ + 2 H₂O
The products from the reaction of magnesium hydroxide and hydrochloric acid are magnesium chloride and water. This reaction happens in people’s stomachs when they consume milk of magnesia in antacids to eliminate the heartburn (the irritation of esophagus by the hydrochloric acid from the stomach).
