A malignant tumor that occurs in the nasopharyngeal mucosa. Guangdong, Guangxi, Fujian, Hunan and other places in China are high-incidence areas, with more males than females. Most of the patients are middle-aged, and there are also teenagers who suffer from the disease. The cause is related to racial susceptibility (yellows are more likely to suffer from the disease than whites), genetic factors, and Epstein-Barr virus infection. Nasopharyngeal carcinoma is a highly invasive tumor that invades deep structures in the early stage. The nasopharynx causes different syndromes due to different ways of spreading: ascending type (type A) extension, descending type (type D) metastasis, ascending and descending type (type AD).
