Spastic cerebral palsy (CP) is a cerebral palsy that refers to movement and posture disorders caused by non-progressive damage due to incomplete development of the immature brain due to various reasons. Some lesions in the upper cervical spinal cord below the pyramidal decussation do not meet the definition of this disease, but can still be treated as cerebral palsy. In the United States, cerebral palsy patients are the largest group of pediatric patients with neuromuscular disorders. The incidence of cerebral palsy in different countries and regions can range from 6 to 59 cases per 1,000 newborns. Its incidence has increased with the improvement of prenatal care, socioeconomic conditions, environment, and obstetric and pediatric care received by mothers and babies. In the United States, there are about 25,000 new cases of cerebral palsy each year. It can be inferred that the extensive neonatal care institutions are saving more babies with birth injuries or prenatal defects than before, so the number of cerebral palsy patients counted is increasing year by year.
