Pulmonary embolism
Pulmonary embolism refers to a pathological and clinical condition caused by impacted materials entering the pulmonary artery and its branches, blocking the blood supply to the tissue. The most common emboli are blood clots, while others are rare neoplastic cells, fat droplets, air bubbles, intravenously injected drug particles, and even pulmonary vascular blockage caused by the tip of the catheter. Since the lung tissue is supplied with blood from both the bronchial artery and the pulmonary artery, and gas exchange can also be directly carried out between the lung tissue and the alveoli, most pulmonary emboli do not necessarily cause pulmonary infarction.
