Bursitis
Bursitis refers to acute or chronic inflammation of the bursa. Bursae are cystic spaces in connective tissue. They are closed sacs composed of endothelial cells, with synovial membranes and a small amount of synovial fluid on the inner wall. A few of them are connected to joints and are located between the bony prominences and tendons or muscles and skin near the joints. Bursae can be found in places with high friction or pressure. Their main function is to facilitate sliding, thereby reducing or avoiding friction and compression between the bony prominences and soft tissues near the joints. Many joint lesions can cause this disease.
