Cryptosporidiosis
Cryptosporidiosis is an infectious disease caused by Cryptosporidium parvum, and occasionally by other species of Cryptosporidium. Symptoms usually appear about 7 days after infection and include abdominal pain, watery diarrhea, vomiting, and fever. Most patients have symptoms for 6 to 10 days, but they may last for several weeks. Infection can be very serious and even life-threatening in patients with impaired immune systems. Since its official report in 1976, the disease has been found to be widespread and is a common cause of traveler's diarrhea. It is also common in AIDS patients.
