Essential thrombocythemia
Primary thrombocythemia is a myeloproliferative disease characterized by bleeding tendency and thrombosis. It means that the number of platelets in the peripheral blood exceeds the upper limit of the normal platelet count of 400×109/L. The function is also abnormal, and the bone marrow megakaryocytes proliferate excessively. Because this disease often has repeated bleeding, it is also called hemorrhagic thrombocythemia.
